Mommy and Me

Relationships with your mom can either be good or ugly. Mine is the latter. I never did understand why she can be so... well... too strict, too tough, don't do this, don't do that. All those kinds of stuff. I know most of you can relate especially if you never really bonded well with your mom when you were a kid. But over the years I can honestly say that my mom was right all along. I know we don't understand each other well but she is my mom and she just wanted what's best for me. When I became a Christian I have learned to appreciate my mom and also my dad. (And every person I meet.) It's not just about the cultural side of "respect" for them but also honoring them for bringing us up. I've learned to forget my old ways of arguing or mocking my mom. For the bible says,

Deuteronomy 5:16
“Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

 Matthew 15:4
For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’

 First is by honoring them so that you may live long and it may go well in our lives. I would like to live a long and healthy life. And it is written, it is a sin if you curse your father or mother. You cannot call yourself a child of God if you cannot even love your own parents.

Even now that I am an adult, I've learned a lot from what my mom had to say about things I do in life, from the career I take to the relationships I make with others. I know it's not easy to be a mom. I sometimes tell myself will I ever be a good mom to my future children. I shudder at the thought. Because most of the times I feel I don't have what it takes and I might mess up. Still I know God will help and guide me on this when that time comes.

For today I just want to dedicate this blog entry to my dear mom. My "Mom song" for her is the Spice Girls version. It tells the exact feelings I have for my mom and my relationship with her before. And even though I have failed her a lot of times, she still accepts and loves me for who I am. Thank you and I love you mom!
